Tomo-Ka statuary : From the 18th century onwards, the southwest of the Seno plain (Tomo region) was the first line of defence against the expansionist ambitions of the Bamana. The presence of the latter was not only military. The Bamana were going to leave their mark on Tomo society in its political and ritual institutions and in its material culture as well. Tomo-Ka statuary well illustrates this cultural interaction. Dogon sculptures from the southwest Seno plain are permeated with Bamana influences.

La statuaire Tomo-Ka : Au 18e siècle, le sud-ouest de la plaine du Séno (pays Tomo) était en première ligne face aux velléités expansionnistes des Bambara. D’ailleurs la présence de ces derniers ne sera pas seulement militaire. Le monde bambara marquera de son empreinte la société Tomo tant dans ses institutions politiques et rituelles que dans sa culture matérielle. La statuaire Tomo-Ka en est un bel exemple. Les sculptures dogon du sud-ouest de la plaine du Séno sont imprégnées d’influences bambara.
